NORTH DAKOTA AT WAR WITH ITS NATIVE INDIAN AMERICANS

11/21/2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Standing Rock: Critical Injuries After Police Attack with Water Cannons, Rubber Bullets in Freezing Temps
Monday, November 20, 2016 3:00pm

Prepared by Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council at the Standing Rock Dakota Access Pipeline Resistance Camps
The Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council responded to a mass casualty incident that began at 6pm yesterday evening. Approximately 300 injuries were identified, triaged, assessed and treated by our physicians, nurses, paramedics and integrative healers working in collaboration with local emergency response. These 300 injuries were the direct result of excessive force by police over the course of 10 hours. At least 26 seriously injured people had to be evacuated by ambulance to 3 area hospitals.
Police continuously assaulted demonstrators with up to three water cannons for the first 7 hours of this incident in subfreezing temperatures dipping to 22F (C) causing hypothermia in the majority of patients treated. Chemical weapons in the form of pepper spray and tear gas were also used extensively, requiring chemical decontamination for nearly all patients treated and severe reactions in many. Projectiles in the form of tear gas canisters, rubber bullets, and concussion grenades led to numerous blunt force traumas including head wounds, lacerations, serious orthopedic injuries, eye trauma, and internal bleeding.
Every emergency medical unit from the Standing Rock Sioux reservation responded to the incident and additional ambulances were sent from Cheyenne River Sioux tribe (South Dakota), Kidder County, and Morton County. 3 seriously injured patients were transported directly by ambulance from the scene and another 23 patients were transported by ambulance after initial assessment and treatment in camp. Injuries from the mass casualty incident include:

• An elder who lost consciousness and was revived on scene

• A young man with a grand mal seizure

• A woman shot in the face by a rubber bullet with subsequent eye injury and compromised vision

• A young man with internal bleeding who was vomiting blood after a rubber bullet injury to his abdomen

• A man shot in the back near his spine by a rubber bullet causing blunt force trauma and a severe head laceration

• Multiple fractures secondary to projectiles fired by police
The Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council condemns the excessive police violence and calls upon law enforcement to cease and desist these nearly lethal actions. Specifically, we demand the cessation of water cannons in subfreezing temperatures.
Our volunteers performed well under challenging circumstances last night, but we would not have been able to do this without the help of water protectors and local community members who transported patients to our clinic, organized warming spaces, and provided food and tea. We specifically want to thank the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe EMS services for their excellent response and highest quality care in an unprecedented situation. “They were phenomenal. They recognized the severity of what we were dealing with, it could have been a lot worse” said Jazmine, a volunteer physician from the Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council.
Donations for the medical and public health response can be made to the Standing Rock Medic & Healer council at http://www.medichealercouncil.com/donate.

HARVARD HIRES AN OPINIONATED PROFESSOR TO WORK ON A PROJECT “PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE IN ISLAM!”

06/15/2016

He published a book entitled “The Jewish Threat – danger for Christianity and Islam”

Now that’s a real eye opener as to what Harvard defines as Peaceful Coexistence! And also as to what world shaking finding they intend to shock us with!

It sounds as if Harvard  chose the politics of Antisemitism over Academic excellence!

Ali Akbar Alikhani is a famous professor at the University of Tehran. He has written and edited fifteen academic books. Alikhani can now add “visiting scholar” at Harvard University to his curriculum vitae.

Harvard hired him to work at a project focused on the “peaceful coexistence in Islam”. But as revealed by the Washington Free Beacon, Alikhani’s previous work has shown that the professor is not exactly peaceful about Israel and Judaism. The Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, where Alikhani teaches, is closely linked to the Iranian regime that has threatened Israel with destruction.

Ali Akbar Alikhani has published a book entitled “The Jewish Threat – danger for Christianity and Islam”, where he provides “practical solutions” to Judaism and Zionism. Alikhani defined Israel “a country that from its inception was based on force, coercion and oppression of others”. Alfred Rosenberg, the chief ideologue of the Nazi regime, could not have said it better. Rosenberg, in fact, wrote about “the threat posed by the Jew”.

It is not the first case of infiltration of the Iranian regime in American universities. In January 2010, the Tehran regime announced a boycott of Yale because of the presence of an Anti-Semitism Studies Center. The Iranian government labeled Yale as “subversive”, stating that any

It is not the first case of infiltration of the Iranian regime in American universities.

contact between Yale and Iranian citizens was “illegal and prohibited”. Professor Walter Reich, who teaches at George Washington University and directed the Holocaust Museum in Washington, wrote that “Yale has killed the best American institute for the study of anti-Semitism” because its “criticism of Arab and Iranian anti-Semitism” was opposed. The center, in fact, was then closed.

As CAMERA has explained (“Iranian Agent Hides in Washington Post as U.S. Prof,” Sept. 8, 2015), Seyed Hossein Mousavian, currently a “research scholar” at Princeton University, was previously Iran’s ambassador to Berlin in 1992 when Iranian agents assassinated dissident Iranian Kurdish leaders in a restaurant.

The Sunni Arab countries are not the only benefactors of American universities. The Iranian regime has done the same thing massively through the Alavi Foundation of New York. The Washington Post revealed that the Foundation promotes Tehran’s views on world affairs. 30 universities in North America have received funding from this Iranian foundation.

Among these is Harvard, where the Iranian foundation has supported programs both at Harvard College and at the Harvard Law School. Harvard received $345,000 from the Iranian foundation, including $40,000 at the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies in 2011. This is the center that offered the chair to Professor Alikhani. No surprises here.
The goal of this foundation is to “offer Persian language courses and Islamic culture with a focus on Shiite studies”. They forgot to mention the call for the destruction of Israel and the proposals for a “solution” to the Jewish threat.

Jordanian Cleric Abu Qatada Al-Filistini Discusses The Protocols Of The Elders of Zion, States: Jews Use Blood For Passover Matzos
January 9 and 18, 2016
Salafi Jordanian cleric Omar Mahmoud Othman, commonly known as Abu Qatada Al-Filastini, released a video on his YouTube channel in which he discusses “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” This is the 24th installment of Abu Qatada project “1,000 Books before Death.” While discussing the Protocols, Sheikh Abu Qatada went off on a tangent to deny the Holocaust and affirm the blood libel. Abu Qatada resided in the U.K. and was repeatedly arrested in the 2000s on suspicion of links to terrorism. Eventually, he was deported to Jordan in July 2013, where he was tried, found innocent, and released.
Following are excerpts:

Abu Qatada Al-Filastini: “The issue that we are discussing is The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. If anyone talks about The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, they turn him into a laughing stock. He is regarded as a lunatic who does not belong to humanity. Who can even mention The Protocols of the Elders of Zion?

“What is even stranger is [what happens] when someone talks of the matzos of Zion. Do you know about the Jewish matzos, which are eaten on the Jewish holiday? Let me talk a little about the matzos before moving to the Protocols, their history, and the attempts to deny them. This Jewish blood matzos… there is a text in the Talmud…
[…

“It says that the matzos eaten by the Jews on their holiday must be consecrated with the blood of a man from among the Gentiles. Usually they take a Christian because they cannot overpower a Muslim. This actually happened, yet they treat it as a mockery.”

Lecture At Al-Aqsa Mosque: The Jews’ Use Of Children’s Blood For Passover Matzos Led To The Holocaust
May 29, 2915
During a lecture at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on May 29, 2015, Sheikh Khaled Al-Maghrabi said that the Jews were expelled from European countries and eventually burned in Germany because they would kidnap and murder children in order to knead their blood into Passover matzos. He further said that the Jews were behind 9/11 and that in their Masonic rites, they would kill their own relatives as a sacrifice to Satan.
Following are excerpts:

Sheikh Khaled Al-Maghrabi: “Let us consider the Holocaust of the Israelites in Germany, and all the prior problems that they experienced throughout Europe. The Israelites were expelled from all the countries of Europe, and eventually, they were burned in Germany. Ask yourselves why. Why did the Europeans expel them, moving them from one place to the other? It was not only due to (Jewish) corruption. On Passover, every Israelite community would seek a small child and kidnap him. They would bring a barrel pierced by many needles, and would place the little child inside it. That way, the needles would pierce the child’s body. At the bottom of the barrel there would be a tap to drain the blood. Why would they collect the blood of the kidnapped child? Because Satan, or one of the other higher gods, said that if they wanted him to fulfill their desires, they would have to eat bread kneaded with children’s blood.

“So what would they do? On Passover, when they are not allowed to eat regular bread, they make their matzos. They would knead the dough for these matzos with children’s blood. When this was discovered, the Israelites were expelled throughout Europe. That was the beginning of the calamity of the Israelites in European countries. It got to the point where they were burned in Germany. It was because of all those things, because of their multiple kidnappings of children.
[…]

“There were many such cases. But the media keeps mum about it, but they may be found on the Internet. Just google ‘Bread of the Jews’ or ‘matzos of the Jews,’ and you will find all the stories with evidence and proof, complete with dates and police files.”

Syrian Commentator Hussam Shoei’b: Zionists Burned Jordanian Pilot, Just Like They Knead Passover Matzos With Blood
February 6, 2015
Syrian commentator Hussam Shoei’b recently said that the immolation of the Jordanian pilot was “a clear demonstration of the barbarity of the Zionist entity,” adding: “In the past, they used to knead [Passover] matzos with human blood and eat them.” The statement was made on Hizbullah’s Al-Manar TV on February 6, 2015.
Click here to view this clip on MEMRI TV

Hussam Shoei’b: “What is being done by all these criminal gangs – ISIS Jabhat Al-Nusra, Ahrar Al-Sham, and all these groups with their Islamic names – cannot even be labeled ‘Israeli.’ It is downright Talmudic. The immolation of the Jordanian pilot is a clear demonstration of the barbarity of the Zionist entity, and of the Talmud throughout history. One of their principles is that God can only be satiated by blood. In the past, they used to knead (Passover) matzos with human blood and eat them. This is exactly what is happening in Syria today for the whole world to see.”

Senior Hamas Official Al-Bardawil: Jews Kill Palestinian Children In Order To Knead Their Blood Into Passover Bread
November 26, 2015
In a November 26, 2015 interview on the Hamas Al-Aqsa TV channel, Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader in Gaza, said that the Jews had “ancient biblical beliefs, which instructed them to kill children and collect their blood, in order to knead it into the bread that is eaten on Passover.” “This is the killing of a Palestinian child in order to collect his blood and to knead it into the bread they eat,” he said.
Following are excerpts:

Salah Al-Bardawil: “In addition, they have beliefs which they have tried to conceal from the world. I am referring to the ancient biblical beliefs, which instructed [the Jews] to kill children and collect their blood, in order to knead it into the bread that is eaten on Passover. This is the killing of a Palestinian child in order to collect his blood, and knead it into the bread they eat. Today, they are trying to say that these things never happened, and that it was a joke or a lie, but these are the facts of history. Anyone reading about their history will find this there.”

WHY ISRAELI ACTIONS IN GAZA WERE NOT DISPROPORTIONATE

QUOTING MATZAV

Israeli Disproportionality In Gaza Is Not Indiscriminate

Israeli Disproportionality In Gaza Is Not Indiscriminate

By Ariel Ilan Roth
Many members of the Jewish community have been angered by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ characterization of Israel’s activities in Gaza in 2014 as disproportional. That anger is misplaced. Israel’s actions in Gaza are disproportional, and they are intended to be. Israel’s strategic concept calls for inflicting significant pain on its adversary in order to inspire restraint on the part of the adversary. When successful, the adversary, in this case Hamas, is deterred from either escalating attacks or better yet, from initiating them at all. To say that Israel’s retaliatory strikes against Hamas are disproportional is not to say that they are unjustified or indiscriminate. On both accounts, a good case can be made that Israel deserves far more credit than it receives.

Rather than focusing on Sanders’ comments on disproportionality, it is Sanders’ huge inflation of the numbers of Palestinians killed by Israel in 2014 that should be triggering loud alarms, and not just within the Jewish community. Sanders has claimed that Israel killed 10,000 Palestinians in the 2014 Gaza conflict. According to Hamas sources, 2,310 Palestinians were killed, of which just over 1,600 were civilians. Israeli and UN numbers are generally similar. In grossly inflating the number of fatalities, the problem is not just that Sanders displays a disturbing ignorance about one of the most visible and time-consuming conflicts that would surely occupy his attention were he to win the White House. The greater problem is actually that by inflating the numbers and thereby impugning Israel, Sanders is feeding Israel’s hawks – those who wish Israel to be less discriminating and restrained in the way that it strikes back against Hamas. That is surely not what he wants.

Israel’s manner of responding to attacks from Gaza is notable because for a combination of humanitarian and geopolitical motives, Israel is interested in minimizing Palestinian civilian casualties. Yet, at the same time, it seeks to deliver powerful and decisive blows that will enhance deterrence. Israel has sought to reconcile these seemingly conflicting aims by trying to minimize the impact of attacks upon it such that maintaining a disproportionate response is, nonetheless, smaller in absolute terms than would be required were Israel to suffer significant material and human damage. Investments in defensive systems like the Iron Dome interceptor system serve to reduce the number of Israeli casualties and similarly reduce the amount of retaliatory force that Israel needs to employ while still maintaining the qualitative level of disproportionate force that contributes to the cumulative deterrent effect that Israel wishes to generate.

Humanitarian motivations for sparing Palestinian lives never ranked especially high as a motive for Israel’s hawks and have not been determinative for Israel’s more liberal security thinkers either. The strategic argument for restraint comes from the notion that a reputational benefit will accrue to Israel if it tempers the devastation it wreaks on Palestinian areas. The more measured the Israeli response, so the argument goes, the greater the probability that Israel’s friends in the United States and Europe will provide political and military support for Israel’s right to defend itself. Israeli hawks consistently reject this argument, claiming instead that whether Israel acts with restraint or with abandon, Israel is blamed for employing excessive force. Given that Israel is in for criticism from the U.S. and Europe, the hawks claim, operating with less restraint against the Palestinians may send a clearer message to Israel’s adversaries about the costs of attacking Israel then a temperate response would. And, since Israel is already in the diplomatic doghouse, it will be no worse off.

Which brings us back to Senator Sanders. Israel’s friends in the U.S. are right to criticize Sanders, but they are criticizing the Democratic candidate for the wrong thing. Citing Israel’s disproportionate response is not the problem. The problem is that in continually inflating the number of civilian Palestinians in Gaza killed by Israel from around 1,500 to 10,000, Sanders is affirming that Israel gets no political or reputational benefit from its efforts to be discriminant.

That is precisely the opposite outcome that Sanders – and the rest of the world – wants. What Sanders must do is to recognize that one can vigorously oppose the occupation of portions of Palestinian land and, even more, be appalled by the suffering of the innocents among the Palestinian people whether their pain is caused by Israel or by craven Palestinian leadership, and still to recognize that Israel deserves credit for demonstrating a restraint that cannot be taken for granted.

It is a common meme among Israel’s friends to suggest that American politicians and activists who condemn Israel would be wise to imagine a scenario in which missiles fired from Canada regularly slammed into Maine (or Vermont!) and to honestly ask themselves how long the U.S. would restrain itself from responding. It is, to be sure, an imperfect analogy because it does not acknowledge that the dynamic of occupation plays a key role in the cycles of violence between Israel and the Palestinians that is entirely absent from the U.S.-Canada relationship. That said, the overall point is valid. It is hard to imagine other countries accepting regular rocket fire on their cities with the relative restraint that Israel displays.

To withhold from Israel even the faintest of praise for its restraint will only embolden the hawks who argue that restraint is a waste of time. It is in the interest of any serious contender to the Oval Office to strengthen the hands of those who prefer to tamp down violence rather than inflame it. Bernie Sanders should know as much. Crediting Israel in the manner suggested above would boost Sanders’ claim to have appropriate acumen to conduct the foreign policy of the United States and, perhaps of greater immediate interest to him, strengthen his standing among the liberal Jews who are affronted by his position on Israel and are flocking to his political rival.

THE REPUBLICAN/CONSERVATIVE PROPAGANDA MACHINE KEEPS SPREADING FALSE AND MISLEADING INFORMATION

03/31/2016

THE  FORCES OF DISINFORMATION

keep doing this inane thing of spreading bullshit that has been rescinded and retracted, or proven false:
And here is the TEXT OF THE retraction and explanation:

No, Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be legally ineligible for the Presidency even if she had violated government records laws
[UPDATE: Michael Mukasey sent a very gracious e-mail yesterday evening to say that, “on reflection, … Professor Tillman’s [analysis] is spot on, and mine was mistaken…. The disqualification provision in Section 2071 may be a measure of how seriously Congress took the violation in question, and how seriously we should take it, but that’s all it is.”]
Prof. Seth Barrett Tillman has an interesting — and, I think, likely correct — response to claims that, if Hillary Clinton is found guilty of violating federal document concealment/destruction laws, she would be statutorily ineligible for the Presidency. Those claims have been most prominently made by Michael Mukasey, a former Attorney General and federal judge, whom I much respect but who I think erred in this instance. Prof. Tillman was kind enough to let me pass it along:
A Response to Michael B. Mukasey and Cause of Action:
Michael B. Mukasey, a former Attorney General of the United States (and former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York), has stated that if former Secretary of State (and former Senator) Hillary Clinton is convicted under 18 U.S.C. § 2071,[1] then she is disqualified from holding the presidency.[2] Likewise, a Washington, DC think tank has just published a white paper taking the same position.[3] Mukasey’s and Cause of Action’s position is fundamentally misconceived; indeed, neither puts forward any authority for the position that Section 2071 or any other federal statute creates or could create a disqualification in regard to any elected federal position, including the presidency.
THIS IS THE TEXT BEING SPREAD VIA EMAIL INSPITE OF MUKASKEY’S RETRACTION:

 On Mar 31, 2016, at 12:59 PM, Ed H. <hit@hotmail.com> wrote

  Billy Long , U S Rep.

I haven’t seen where you or any other Representative or Senator hold Hillary Clinton to this, WHY???

It’s business as usual in D.C. The land separate from the USA. And You wonder why the voters are upset!!!
Have any of you read United States Code Title 18. Section 2071 ???

A ship called America – either we learn to sail together or we sink together

United States Code Title 18. Section 2071

 https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/part-I/chapter-121

Word for word from the Cornell Law Library !!!

Former United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey tells MSNBC that not only is Hillary Clinton’s private email server illegal, it “disqualifies” her from holding any federal office.

Such as, say, President of the United States.
“If you do this or that bad thing, you’ve essentially disqualified yourself as being the leader of the free world,” said Mukasey, referring to the illegal server and the illegal handling of classified materials.

Mukasey specifically points to one federal law, Title 18. Section 2071.

For those of us who do not have United States Code committed to memory, here’s what it says:
“(a)

Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so, or, with intent to do so takes and carries away any record, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

(b)

Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States. As used in this subsection, the term “office” does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.”

Yes, it explicitly states “shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.”
Shouldn’t voters know that? The media won’t tell them. So it’s up to us. Can you help hold Hillary accountable? Pass this on, please.

AND ALL THAT OF COURSE IS NOT RELEVANT !

An Erudite Scot Responds to BDS at the Edinburgh University

02/06/2016

The Scots have something right besides the whiskey. –==::This is a letter written by a non – Jewish Scottish professor to his students who voted to boycott Israel.

It’s a response from Dr Denis MacEoin, a non-Jewish professor, to the motion put forward by The Edinburgh Student’s Association to boycott all things Israeli, in which they claim Israel is under an apartheid regime. Denis is an expert in Middle Eastern affairs and was a senior editor of the Middle East Quarterly. Here’s his letter to the students.

TO: The Committee Edinburgh University Student Association.

May I be permitted to say a few words to members of the EUSA? I am an Edinburgh graduate (MA 1975) who studied Persian, Arabic and Islamic History in Buccleuch Place under William Montgomery Watt and Laurence Elwell Sutton, two of Britain ‘s great Middle East experts in their day. I later went on to do a PhD at Cambridge and to teach Arabic and Islamic Studies at Newcastle University . Naturally, I am the author of several books and hundreds of articles in this field. I say all that to show that I am well informed in Middle Eastern affairs and that, for that reason, I am shocked and disheartened by the EUSA motion and vote.

I am shocked for a simple reason: there is not and has never been a system of apartheid in Israel .

That is not my opinion, that is fact that can be tested against reality by any Edinburgh student, should he or she choose to visit Israel to see for themselves. Let me spell this out, since I have the impression that those members of EUSA who voted for this motion are absolutely clueless in matters concerning Israel, and that they are, in all likelihood, the victims of extremely biased propaganda coming from the anti-Israel lobby.

Being anti-Israel is not in itself objectionable. But I’m not talking about ordinary criticism of Israel . I’m speaking of a hatred that permits itself no boundaries in the lies and myths it pours out. Thus, Israel is repeatedly referred to as a “Nazi” state. In what sense is this true, even as a metaphor? Where are the Israeli concentration camps? The einzatsgruppen? The SS? The Nuremberg Laws? The Final Solution? None of these things nor anything remotely resembling them exists in Israel , precisely because the Jews, more than anyone on earth, understand what Nazism stood for.

It is claimed that there has been an Israeli Holocaust in Gaza (or elsewhere). Where? When? No honest historian would treat that claim with anything but the contempt it deserves. But calling Jews Nazis and saying they have committed a Holocaust is as basic a way to subvert historical fact as anything I can think of.

Likewise apartheid. For apartheid to exist, there would have to be a situation that closely resembled how things were in South Africa under the apartheid regime. Unfortunately for those who believe this, a weekend in any part of Israel would be enough to show how ridiculous the claim is.

That a body of university students actually fell for this and voted on it is a sad comment on the state of modern education. The most obvious focus for apartheid would be the country’s 20% Arab population. Under Israeli law, Arab Israelis have exactly the same rights as Jews or anyone else; Muslims have the same rights as Jews or Christians; Baha’is, severely persecuted in Iran, flourish in Israel, where they have their world center; Ahmadi Muslims, severely persecuted in Pakistan and elsewhere, are kept safe by Israel; the holy places of all religions are protected under a specific Israeli law. Arabs form 20% of the university population (an exact echo of their percentage in the general population).

In Iran , the Bahai’s (the largest religious minority) are forbidden to study in any university or to run their own universities: why aren’t your members boycotting Iran ? Arabs in Israel can go anywhere they want, unlike blacks in apartheid South Africa . They use public transport, they eat in restaurants, they go to swimming pools, they use libraries, they go to cinemas alongside Jews – something no blacks were able to do in South Africa .

Israeli hospitals not only treat Jews and Arabs, they also treat Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank.

On the same wards, in the same operating theatres.

In Israel , women have the same rights as men: there is no gender apartheid.

Gay men and women face no restrictions, and Palestinian gays often escape into Israel, knowing they may be killed at home.

It seems bizarre to me that LGBT groups call for a boycott of Israel and say nothing about countries like Iran , where gay men are hanged or stoned to death. That illustrates a mindset that beggars belief.

Intelligent students thinking it’s better to be silent about regimes that kill gay people, but good to condemn the only country in the Middle East that rescues and protects gay people. Is that supposed to be a sick joke?

University is supposed to be about learning to use your brain, to think rationally, to examine evidence, to reach conclusions based on solid evidence, to compare sources, to weigh up one view against one or more others. If the best Edinburgh can now produce are students who have no idea how to do any of these things, then the future is bleak.

I do not object to well-documented criticism of Israel . I do object when supposedly intelligent people single the Jewish state out above states that are horrific in their treatment of their populations. We are going through the biggest upheaval in the Middle East since the 7th and 8th centuries, and it’s clear that Arabs and Iranians are rebelling against terrifying regimes that fight back by killing their own citizens.

Israeli citizens, Jews and Arabs alike, do not rebel (though they are free to protest). Yet Edinburgh students mount no demonstrations and call for no boycotts against Libya , Bahrain , Saudi Arabia , Yemen , and Iran . They prefer to make false accusations against one of the world’s freest countries, the only country in the Middle East that has taken in Darfur refugees, the only country in the Middle East that gives refuge to gay men and women, the only country in the Middle East that protects the Bahai’s…. Need I go on?

The imbalance is perceptible, and it sheds no credit on anyone who voted for this boycott. I ask you to show some common sense. Get information from the Israeli embassy. Ask for some speakers. Listen to more than one side.

Do not make your minds up until you have given a fair hearing to both parties. You have a duty to your students, and that is to protect them from one-sided argument.

They are not at university to be propagandized. And they are certainly not there to be tricked into anti-Semitism by punishing one country among all the countries of the world, which happens to be the only Jewish state. If there had been a single Jewish state in the 1930’s (which, sadly, there was not), don’t you think Adolf Hitler would have decided to boycott it?

Your generation has a duty to ensure that the perennial racism of anti-Semitism never sets down roots among you. Today, however, there are clear signs that it has done so and is putting down more. You have a chance to avert a very great evil, simply by using reason and a sense of fair play. Please tell me that this makes sense. I have given you some of the evidence.

It’s up to you to find out more.

 Yours sincerely
